Description

Ford V8 Pilot 1949 3. 6L Flathead V8 manual Old English White over Oxford Blue.
Colum shift manual "3 on the tree”.

The Ford V8 Pilot was the first production Ford motor car to be manufactured in the UK after the second world war ended. It is also the only V8 that Ford have ever manufactured in the United Kingdom.
Fit for a King. King George VI owned a Ford V8 Pilot Shooting Brake and used it on the Sandringham Estate. It is still featured in the Sandringham Car Collection to this day.

Over the past 12 months this Ford V8 Pilot has benefitted from a significant rolling restoration by the present owner, with over £20, 000 invested. She is in good overall condition, but as you would expect from a 76-year-old lady, there are age-related marks and opportunities to continuously upgrade and improve her.

This model boasts numerous & subtle upgrades, that make her more usable in modern traffic including:

Completely overhauled brake system including four refurbished drums & refurbished front wheel cylinders from Belcher
Engineering, rebuilt master cylinder, reservoir, and new rear cables.

12V Negative earth conversion and complete re-wire using a DTE digital fuse box.

New WOSP 12v DC Dynator with new WOSP dummy “Lucas-style” voltage regulator

LED warm white light bulbs throughout, including DRL’s integrated into the sidelights making her more visible and, ergo safer to use in modern traffic.

New Stromberg e-Fire electronic ignition distributor with a stock-look Pertronix Flame Thrower epoxy filled ignition coil relocated to bulkhead and stock-look silicone ignition leads.

New Stromberg 97 carburettor with Ethanol tolerant internals

New electric fuel pump, to overcome the notorious vapour-locking that these models are known for.

New WOSP Hi-Torque starter motor.

New battery.

Completely refurbished cooling system including: Newly re-cored orginal radiator upgraded to a high-capacity core by Aaron Radiators of London, with a Spal 16” electric cooling fan, controlled by a Revotec inline electronic fan controller, reconditioned water pumps X 2 from Belcher Engineering with brass impellers and ceramic bearings. This upgrade alone cost over £2, 000

New front wheel bearings

Reconditioned original indicator switch on the steering wheel boss.

2 new Dennis Carpenter front engine mounts.

2 new Dennis Carpenter rear gearbox mounts.

Hazard Warning Lights upgrade for modern-world-traffic driving safety.

Daytime running lights, subdtly integrated into the front side lights and bumper-mounted driving lights.

New, complete stainless steel exhaust system, plus NOS manifolds, no cracks and no welds, with stainless steel flexi couplers added to each downpipe, to protect the manifolds from shocks, a notorious issue on these cars..

Recently reupholstered in cream leather with navy blue piping.

New windscreen rubber seal.

5 new 600R16 Auburn Classic Whitewall Radial Tyres. These tyres are designed to retain the classic “cross-ply look” whilst giving the safety of a radial’s performance at a cost of over £2, 200 for the set.

Starts on the button. She will not disappoint.
