Description

For sale is my 1955 Land Rover Series One — a true British classic.

Extensive documented history, some going back to 1981!!!
Please also note, the number plate with Stanley on can be easily removed. It’s only held on with a couple of number plate brackets.

It has always started first turn of the key and drives solid and straight on the road.
It’s MOT- and tax-exempt, and I’ve owned it since 2008.

Recent work includes a full brake overhaul, so it stops as well as it goes.
It also comes with the full canvas tilt, mounting frame, plus spare wheels and tyres.

Viewings are very welcome — you won’t be disappointed.

Born in the rural borderlands of Radnorshire & Gloucestershire — built to work, kept to survive with only 8 former registered keepers since April 1955

Some Land Rovers feel like they’ve lived.
This one feels like it’s earned its place in the world.

Registered new in 1955 in the quiet agricultural border region of Radnorshire / Gloucester, this Series I started life exactly where early Land Rovers belonged — on farms, tracks, fields and lanes where a dependable machine wasn’t a luxury, it was a lifeline.

Its number — SFO 926 — is more than just a plate.
It’s its name.
Its identity.
The same identity it has carried from the day it was first stamped into a logbook almost seventy years ago.

Walk around it and you can feel that history.
Not restored to death, not turned into a museum piece — but preserved, loved and kept alive by owners who understood what they had.

It comes with its full canvas tilt and proper frame, both in excellent condition. The kind of canvas that instantly takes you back to another era: early mornings, cold starts, warm engines, and that unmistakable smell of canvas, oil and old aluminium. A Series I in a full tilt isn’t just a vehicle — it’s a time capsule.

Under the bonnet sits the 2. 25-litre petrol engine, a respectful period-friendly upgrade that makes this Land Rover usable and enjoyable today while keeping all its original charm. It still drives in that wonderfully simple, mechanical, honest way that only the early trucks do.

Alongside it comes a collection of original-style wheels and tyres — steel rims with classic military tread patterns, Avon traction tyres, and spares that have clearly been part of its life. They stay with the truck, just as they should.

Why this Land Rover matters

It isn’t pretending.
It isn’t over-restored.
It isn’t a kit of new parts pretending to be old.

It’s real.
A true survivor from the rural Welsh–English borderlands, carrying its original identity, its original spirit, and decades of honest work and adventure.

If you’re looking for something shiny, perfect and soulless — walk past this one.
But if you’re looking for a Series I that has lived a proper life, that still carries the quiet dignity of its origins, and that still feels exactly as a 1955 Land Rover should…

…you’ve just found it.
