Description
This truly is a lovely example of a 1950 Series 1 80” Land Rover.
Sheila, as we call her, was exported from the Solihull Land Rover factory in 1950 in CKD (Completely Knocked Down) form to Australia, where she was then assembled and sold by Annand & Thompson, who were the distributors for the NSW area.
Sheila enjoyed 64 years as a hard-working all-terrain vehicle in the sun, until having a thorough but honest restoration in 2015, before then being sent back home to Blighty in 2016 when she was allocated her current registration plate.
The chassis and bulkhead are in great condition due to the car's early life in the sun.
Its 2. 0 Siamese engine, which had been upgraded sometime during its time in Australia, was fully rebuilt in 2018 at a cost of £2500, and the Steering box was refurbished in 2019 for £700. Many other receipts for parts and work are available, which is reassuring to see. I purchased this car 18 months ago to sit alongside my other Land Rover Series 1 cars, a 1950, 1951, and 1956. Sheila has been driven regularly without giving me any issues during that time.
I am now starting to restore my 1973 2 Door Range Rover, and to help fund this, I will sadly have to pass the car over to a new custodian to enjoy.
This car is a great example of an iconic 75-year-old vehicle that will always bring smiles, create memories and maintain its value and attraction for many years to come.
