Description
For sale is my 1931 Austin Seven RM saloon, affectionately known as Brum.
Brum has been in my care for over a year, during which we had 1500 miles of adventures. The car had a cosmetic restoration in 2013, with the paintwork and interior still presenting very well as pictured. Over the past year, I did a mechanical overhaul, including a top end rebuild (rebore and new pistons), and while I was at it I serviced the rest of the drivetrain as needed.
The ignition system is all new as well, and the cooling system was cleaned and flushed, so the car always starts on the button and purrs away. It runs smoke free, and all the fluids remain where they should be without mixing. The chassis and body work are all solid.
For a car of that age, it is pretty reliable and I often take it for 50-100 mile round trips without a second thought; the engine is happy cruising at 35-40 mph without any trouble, and braking system is adjusted so that it does indeed stop when needed!! I've had the car in regular use in my ownership, popping out to the shops or doing local runs just like any other car; he may be old, but he still is a car and likes to go do car stuff like everyone else!
No car of that age is perfect, but Brum is great in all the important areas and a car you can safely drive away without needing to do anything to. Everything works and is as reliable as could be.
If you haven't driven a pre-war car before, this is honestly the most fun one could have at 30 mph. The smiles per mile factor is incredible, and it's always warmly received wherever we went. Driving it is straightforward as well, and it really doesn't take much effort to master; if I can do it, anyone else can too.
I have had oodles of fun with Brum, but a change of circumstances means he's got to find a new loving home.
The car will come with it's essential spares, and a workshop manual if you don't already have it. You can't help but smile when you look at it! Really fun to drive and super easy to work on
