Description
This is a rare matching numbers Greeves Silverstone and importantly the “best” version being a 1966 RDS model with the five-speed Albion cam-barrel gearbox, which I bought from marque authority Colin Wilkinson – see Classic Racer article.
As confirmed in the Authentication letter from the Greeves Riders Association “I have received the report on the inspection of your Greeves motorcycle bearing frame number 24RDS 129 which was carried out by one of our machine examiners, on 18th May 2022. The frame and engine numbers are correctly stated that the machine is complete, and that all major components are original and of Greeves manufacture. The engine is the original, a 246cc Greeves-manufactured unit, numbered GPA7 131. Mr. N reports that the machine has been very well restored and has clearly been well maintained and is in excellent original condition. This motorcycle was manufactured in the UK during May 1966, and upon completion of manufacture on 31st May 1966 was dispatched to Birkenhead dealer Moto Cross. This information was obtained from the original Greeves factory dispatch records of which I am the current custodian.”
Unlike most Silverstone racers on sale, this one actually has the original GP2 carburettor which is as rare as hen's teeth.
The engine has been rebuilt by Greeves specialist in 2019 and again in 2022. A new NEB clutch has been fitted and uprated main bearings plus transistor ignition.
The bike has both a new glassfibre and new aluminium fuel tanks.
Wheels have been rebuilt on alloy valanced rims using stainless steel spokes.
This bike is ridden in CRMC Parades and has a CRMC eligibility certificate placing it in the Grand Prix group. So, this Greeves Silverstone is ready to parade or race and starts and runs reliably, is quick and a joy to ride. Reluctant sale as I’m retiring from riding bikes.
