Description
Overview
This is a truly exceptional 1954 Packard Patrician, not simply for its condition, but for its rare factory specification and extraordinary provenance file.
Finished in elegant cream over a striking and highly unusual bespoke pink interior, this Patrician represents Packard at its most indulgent in the final years of independent production, when the company would still accommodate individual customer commissions.
The result is a senior Packard that feels both imposing and intimate unmistakably 1950s American luxury, but with a level of individuality rarely seen today.
Provenance Highlights (Fully Documented)
* Original US ownership documented with Virginia Certificate of Title issued in 2003 to noted Packard collector Bruce Mitchell Sedel (who previously restored the car)
* Exported from the USA in 2007 using original title
* EU VAT and customs cleared in Germany (Bremen) – official customs documentation present
* First UK registration: March 2008 (DVLA number plate authorisation retained)
* UK & Northern Ireland ownership and test records from 2008–2014
* Sold at Paul Cooke Auctions (2017) and subsequently registered in the Republic of Ireland
* Comprehensive provenance file includes:
• US title
• Export documentation
• EU customs clearance
• Previous UK registration and test records
• Auction invoice
• Correspondence with prior US owner detailing restoration history
Long-associated history suggests the car may originally have been commissioned by the Wrigley family (chewing gum fame); however, no documentary proof survives and this is presented transparently as unverified early correspondence provenance. What is beyond doubt is that the car was factory-specified with a non-standard interior, fully consistent with Packard’s bespoke practices in 1954. Condition
This Packard presents beautifully and is fully operational, having been maintained as a usable, road-ready classic rather than a static showpiece.
* Engine & transmission: Perform flawlessly, smooth and authoritative as intended
* Electrical system: Original 6-volt, correctly retained
* Interior: Immaculate throughout — upholstery, trim and fittings are outstanding
* Paintwork: Excellent overall with minor micro-blistering visible only up close and under certain lighting conditions
* Chrome: Very strong; light pitting to the rear bumper only, purely cosmetic and not detracting from the car’s presence
Importantly, these small cosmetic notes reflect an honest, unrestored presentation rather than over-restoration. The car shows exactly as a high-quality, properly preserved senior Packard should.
Driving Experience
On the road, the Patrician is everything its reputation suggests:
* Effortless torque from the 359 straight-eight
* Seamless Ultramatic shifting
* Sharp brakes
* Remarkable ride quality from the long wheelbase
* A sense of calm, deliberate authority that modern cars simply cannot replicate
This is a car that excels equally at:
* concours and shows
* weddings and events
* long, unhurried touring
Why This Car Matters
Many Packards survive. Very few survive with this level of documentation. Fewer still combine:
• bespoke factory specification
• clean transatlantic provenance
• original mechanical character
• and road-ready usability
This is not a speculative “story car”. It is a properly documented, historically interesting example of one of America’s last great luxury automobiles.
