Description
1968 Triumph TR250 import for restoration.
For those who are not aware the Triumph TR250 is fundamentally a TR5 with a detuned engine to meet US emission regulations in 1968, so instead of PI it was fitted with twin strombergs and a different cylinder head, all were LHD.
This particular car was brought back by me to the UK, it looks rubbish but the fundamentals are good and it is very restorable to either original spec or upgraded to PI or triple webers. The body tub on the car is solid, it will need outer panels, the chassis is also good, so its a good starting point for building a very nice sought after TR, six cylinder TR's are a joy to drive and great touring cars.
I have a lot more photos of the car, it is a very complete car, too err on caution I'll say 99% but I can't think of anything that's missing, this alone is quite rare as reproduction parts are not anywhere near as good as original, the car is also on desirable wires.
It rolls easily for loading, it does not have an overdrive gearbox (most TR250's didn't) but they are readily available and straight forward to fit.
The car is LHD, these TR's are very straightforward to convert to RHD and it's quite an inexpensive job, I have all import papers and the all important NOVA and US title for easy period correct registration in the UK.
Why am I selling? I'm losing my storage. The car can be viewed most times near Mansfield in Nottinghamshire. The TR250 is a great way into pseudo TR5 ownership, this car is very complete and could very easily be built up to the specification of a proper TR5 at a fraction of the cost, apart from the mechanical bits, it's the same car. TR5's are rare and rightly command a premium if you can't afford that sort of outlay, this is an opportunity to get the same driving experience.
Relative to other cars with monocoque construction TR's are straightforward to restore at home, it's nuts and bolts over welding.
