Description

Vintage Motors offers expert vehicle inspections for buyers worldwide. Buying a classic car in South Africa? Let us handle it for you.

This 1959 MGA Twin Cam is a rare, genuine example that still carries its original Twin Cam engine - a car restored with precision, patience, and respect for its history.

The current owner has had the car since 2017, and during that time, it underwent a complete body-off restoration. The chassis was sandblasted and refinished, the body corrected and repainted, and every mechanical system rebuilt or replaced. The engine received a full overhaul with high-compression pistons, a new cam drive chain, and all new supporting components. The braking system was redone from front to back with new lines, cylinders, and pads, and the interior was completely renewed - including a new soft top, tonneau cover, and refurbished side screens.

Since completion, the car has covered just 988 miles (around 1, 600 km), proof that it’s been properly run in but not tired. It runs beautifully, feels tight on the road, and starts easily thanks to a new high-torque starter and electronic ignition.

Chrome work has been redone throughout, with a new imported front bumper fitted. A spin-on oil filter conversion, dual fuel pumps with a changeover switch, and a stainless-steel performance exhaust system add reliability and refinement without compromising originality.

The radiator and fuel tank were chemically cleaned, the clutch master cylinder replaced, and even small touches like a rebuilt temperature gauge, upgraded distributor, and smaller period-correct steering wheel show the attention to detail.

During restoration, no evidence of previous accident damage was found. The car’s history is well documented, including early racing at Grand Central Circuit up to 1964, with records dating back to 1960.

Licensed and registered. The car runs and drives well, with only the trip odometer not resetting.
