Description
The Daimler Double Six Vanden Plas on offer here represents the absolute apex of the XJ line. This left-hand-drive specification was produced in under 400 units. These cars were owned by wealthy and discerning buyers – among others, the Queen Mother rode in a Vanden Plas.
The Daimler stands for smooth, relaxed driving, even over long distances. The sportscar-tested engine and the rock-solid braking system enable brisk progress. The interior is English-elegant, outfitted with wood, leather and many round instruments.
The many changes compared with the standard Daimler Double Six concerned, in particular:
- A slightly higher seating position at the front
- Individual rear seats
- Two reading lamps
- Root-wood veneer inserts in the more elaborate door panels
- Interior trim with considerably more leather
- Tinted glass
- Fog lights
- Automatic climate control
- 4 speakers and an electric aerial
- Significantly more chrome appliqués
- Inside-adjustable exterior mirror
Our Daimler is a German car with essentially two owners recorded in the papers. The original owners (a married couple) had the Daimler for 37 years until the summer of 2016. The second owner then sold the car in 2021 to the current owner. This buyer never registered the car and has only covered about 200 kilometres.
In 2010 the Daimler apparently came back into operation after a longer period of storage. Since then, around €30, 000 has been invested in the car. Corresponding invoices are available.
A German H-plate has been in use since 2012.
The car has matching numbers – the gearbox has been overhauled.
The high-quality interior is nicely preserved and given a suitable patina.
A collector’s vehicle that can be driven with a lot of comfort, as documented in the YouTube video “Der Doc fährt Folge 88”.
The odometer shows 23, 100 kilometres – but it will probably be 123, 100 kilometres.
