Description
The coupé variant of the Mercedes mid-range W123 was already a big seller with long delivery times from its unveiling in 1977. The first series until 1980 shone with the somewhat nicer “grainy” dashboard and above all with the installed root walnut wood. Unfortunately the first series was also heavily affected by poor sheet metal quality and almost no anti-rust protection against rust corrosion. Here is where the story of this vehicle comes into play.
Our vehicle was bought in 1979 by a couple and after three years registered in the wife's name. The Mercedes remained in her ownership until it was decommissioned in 2010. In 2017 the car was completely dismantled and structurally renovated by a master coachbuilder. Afterwards the car was repainted in Astral Silver. During the restoration all running gear parts were overhauled and defective interior components replaced. In total €8, 000 was invested. Furthermore the Baroque alloy wheels were put back into like-new condition at Fuchs, and not to forget, the bodywork is now fully closed-cell foam sealed.
The result is a W 123 Coupé in one-year-car condition.
Since the restoration work was completed, the car with red plates has been driven a maximum of 1, 000 kilometres.
Heated rear window, power steering, height-adjustable front seats, internally adjustable exterior mirrors, brake pad wear indicator, halogen lights, fog lights, headlight aim control were, among others, part of the standard equipment. In addition, this vehicle has velour upholstery, an electric sunroof, centre armrest, alloy wheels, an electric aerial, and a high-quality Blaupunkt radio with special Traffic Funk.
