Description
1970 Mercedes 280 SE w108 saloon
UK car, first registered 1st January 1971
2. 8 litre 6 cylinder M130 engine with 4 speed auto gearbox
Dark Blue
Blue MBTex interior
Historic registered and MOT exempt
Owned for just over 4 years and has been maintained by me through out that time with annual oil changes and gearbox service. New shocks fitted last year. Replacement headliner just fitted. Rebuilt throttle linkage.
Bodywork and chassis were restored by the previous owner in 2016 and is holding up well with no rot. Paintwork is in the original Mercedes dark blue (904G) and is in good condition for a 10 year old restoration. Chrome is very good with just a slight patina. All the wood work on the interior has been professionally restored. I have fitted an original fitment Becker Europa stereo. Great condition white wall tyres that really set it off. Engine runs very smooth with good oil pressure, no smoke and good power. Gearbox changes as it should and not half a clunky as most 70’s Mercs. I have driven the some 200mile plus trips and no issues. Last year I replaced the speedo (with a correct part number item) due to the milometer failing. It had around 82kmiles when I swapped it (now showing 51k) but I can’t say what the actual miles may be after 56 years! The car will go in for a mot, just for any prospective purchaser’s piece of mind, this week. I have loved this car whilst I have had it. I have had classics for the last 30+ years and always sports cars. This was my first foray into big saloons and has me hooked. (I must be getting old!). Selling so I can move on to another cruiser on the bucket list.
I have a big file of history details with the car, owner’s manual, workshop manual, 2 keys, hundreds of photos I can share, and walk around/ drive videos on request. Please feel free to give me a call to discuss so I can give you all the details and answer any questions you may have. I am based in Stock, Essex (CM4), just outside Chelmsford. If you come to view then I have a lift in the garage for viewing the underside.
Looking for £16, 500 for the car, which I think is fair considering its condition relative to most others I have seen, and it being a UK car rather than SA or US import. It is also significantly less than a 3. 5 or 4. 5 would be whilst avoiding the big V8 bill potential!
