Description
Had wanted a 928 for a long time but wanted an early model and in original condition as possible. I first saw and bought a 1981 model (imported from Holland) but then quickly found the car I really wanted, a very early 1978 model (imported from Spain). The latter is automatic and in perfect original condition. I then ended up with two in December 2025! Doh! Anyway don’t have the space for two so letting one go.
The one for sale is the early 1981 model and is finished in the beautiful and rare colour Rosewood metallic and has a manual transmission. I have had it since December 2025. It’s been stored in a roofed car port.
Information shared with me when I bought it:
1. Prior to me I understand that it was in storage for many years but Over the past two years, it had had some maintenance work bringing the car into good technical condition.
2. Major work included a new distribution including water pump, replacement of all fluids, a new handbrake cable and shift rod rubbers, and a refurbished fuel tank sender. Cam-belt changed in 2022.
I would say body is in good condition.
3. On the electrical side, I was informed the car had some work done that included renewing some electric motors, such as the alternator, windshield washer and heater fan with adjustments made to the electric windows, rear window wiper and driver's seat.
4. I understand the interior and iconic Pasha upholstery is mostly original although seats have been repadded. The boot carpets and linings are missing though.
The air conditioning which is partially disassembled and no longer functional.
For lovers of authenticity, the car has matching numbers, as evidenced by the original Geburtserkunde.
It had a Dutch MOT until 26/ 02/ 26.
Last month the car had a full service by 928 specialists Chris at Loe Bank Motors.
The car didn’t need an MOT but I put it through one anyway. It failed on a number of points all corrected by Chris except the o/ s foglights. This was explained to me would have required cutting into the bumper, which wasn’t worth it.
I also asked Chris to give me a list of advisories so that when I was ready to sell I could be open and transparent as possible to any potential buyer.
I also got his team to take some underside photos.
My own findings / that don’t work but not sure if they are minor or major:
1. Passenger window
2. Radio aerial
3. Rear wiper - the motor comes on but the wipers don’t move
4. Both rear boot lid dampers seem to have lost their gas.
It’s not registered so not had a chance to drive it properly on the road but have driven it around the large courtyard I live in. It starts up well and gears shift as expected.
Will add more info and photos next couple of days but happy to answer any questions.
I think £14K is a fair price and want to sell quickly. I won’t be reducing the price. But, If it doesn’t sell in next 7-10 days will probably keep it and work on the advisories over next 12 months and enjoy it myself.
