This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at Supercar Fest 2026 on Saturday the 16th of May, Sywell Aerodrome, Sywell, Northampton, NN6 0BN. In terms of the 928, in 1989, Porsche moved the game on with the even more powerful 928 GT which, with a top speed of around 170mph, was the Stuttgart firm's fastest production car at that time, before launching the model's ultimate incarnation, the 928 GTS. Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1991, the latter featured an enlarged 5, 397cc DOHC 32-valve V8 that developed some 345bhp and 369lb/ ft of torque and automatics were fitted with the much faster responding Dynamic Kickdown gearboxes setting them apart from previous models. Riding on special five-spoke 17" 'Cup' alloys, it further benefited from four-wheel vented-disc ABS brakes (complete with four-*** Brembo callipers) and a computer-controlled limited-slip differential. Externally, the GTS differed from the S4 by its more aggressive and muscular styling, widened rear wings to accommodate larger tyres, a distinctive continuous red light strip connecting the rear lights and a body-coloured rear spoiler.
What Porsche was not advertising when the 928 was released was the price which was amongst the most expensive cars on the road at the time. This severely hampered sales despite the model's level of competency and long standard equipment list. Porsche discontinued the GTS in 1995 after selling only 2, 904 examples in total, which at the time was a problem, but in 2026 makes for a rare and incredibly desirable model.
The striking 928 GTS Automatic on offer here was supplied new by Porsche JCT600 on 6th March 1995 as one of the 2, 904 GTS models produced. It presents beautifully in gleaming black over soft grey leather piped in black, matching carpets and very attractive figured wood panels in the doors and centre console. It originally sported the registration number, M805 UNW, however, it has been wearing the appropriate M888 GTS on the car since 2008 helping to complete its identity. Our vendor, a true classic collector, has decided to reduce his collection hence allowing a new owner the opportunity to get behind the wheel of this very sought after 928 variant.
Indicating 79, 247 miles at the time of cataloguing and showing six former registered keepers, the accompanying history file includes a complete Porsche black leather wallet containing the original drivers manual, stamped service book, a plethora of service documents along with a raft of old MOT Certificates, the most current of which runs to March 2027 with no advisories, offering peace of mind for any interested buyers. Also within the pack is a year-related price list showing the car retailing at that time for £72, 950, a serious amount of money 31 years ago!!
This stunning GTS has patently been looked after which is reflected in its remarkably fresh appearance. Very few luxury GT cars from the 1990s have been so revered as the Porsche 928 GTS, and today it is rare to find a rival that is without the histrionics of contemporary exotica or the dullness of a mass-produced luxury saloon-derived coupé.
