Description
ULEZ compliant, cable throttle, LSD, manual 911(996) Carrera. This is a relatively early car, built in October ’98 and registered in early ’99 by AFN Guildford. Spec:The car is Arctic Silver Metallic over black leather, and while carrying relatively basic ‘spec’ this car features a great cocktail of the drivers’ favourites: • Cable throttle• Limited Slip Differential (LSD) • Traction controlOther options specified include:• Sun-roof (fully functional)• CDR-22 Radio (I’ll include an aftermarket Bluetooth unit that a prior owner purchased too)• Electric front seats (with memory)Condition:Overall, this 996 is in nice shape. Of course, being c. 26 years old now and on c. 125k miles, it isn’t perfect and you’ll find some age related marks here and there, stone chips etc. the wheels are in good shape (I’ve returned the car to the 17” twists that it left factory with and found they provide a great balance between ride quality and handling for our UK roads). During my ownership, I’ve also fitted the early 996 amber lights and repeaters to get the original launch look back. On the interior, again it’s all in good order, with only some age showing through on the driver’s seat bolster, and a couple of other areas (see pictures). As pictured, the sunroof works correctly. Mechanically, the car has the archetypal mix of Porsche Centre and specialist history. It’s accompanied by a stamped service book, and stacks of invoices detailing work carried out over the years. A few notable items to call out from recent years in addition to regular oil changes/ services:• July 2026 - Power steering pipes renewed (subframe drop job), and annual service• MOT (no advisories) to December 2025• May 2025 – new sunroof gasket/ seal• Apr 2025 – Service, fix coolant leak, fix to headlight frame• Jan 2025 – Alpine SPG-10C2 speaker fitted within standard housings • Aug 2024 – Variocam pads and chains on both banks replaced, low temp thermostat, misc additional items replaced. Oil and filter change. • Apr 2024 – Major service (incl spark plugs, pollen filter, air filter, oil filter, oil), Refreshed ARB, coolant pipes• 2022 – Transmission oil change• 2021 – New stainless Designtek exhaust with equal length headers (sounds fantastic)• 2020 – New starter motor• 2019 – New IMS, RMS, Clutch, AOS and rear coffin arms (at 109k miles)• 2018 – New alternator• 2017 – Radiator protection (like Zunsport) grilles fitted to prevent accumulation of detritus, and stone chipsThe car drives really well, with no untoward knocks, delivering the engagement that you’d want from a 996, with a great soundtrack from the exhaust (no excessive droning on motorways either). The only additional noise is what I believe to be the early stages of the pinion bearing whine common in early 996 gearboxes - not something that I've worried about as it doesn't impact my driving experience, or the functioning of the box at all. I’ve done c. 2. 5k enjoyable miles in my ownership; I’m selling as we've just moved and I've lost my covered parking space. The previous owner used the car sparingly too. The prior two owners’ documented their ownership on Retrorides and I can happily share links to these from their time with the car works they carried out. You'll can see that this car has been looked after and enjoyed over the years. Finally, it registered as ULEZ compliant. I have a Certificate of Conformity from Porsche confirming all emissions information relating to this car, which has been used to certify it’s compliance with ULEZ standards and TfL. Priced at 14, 500 ONO (this will include a number of additional spare parts too). I'm selling as parenthood is imminent and I'm on the hunt for a fast estate (S204 C63 ideally). I was attracted to the car, having seen it listed on the Retrorides forum where I could see the then-owner and prior-owner's ownership threads. I knew I wanted an earlier as the 3. 4 cars are generally regarded are more mechanically robust thanks to more better cylinder and piston linings removing bore-score worries associated with the later 3. 6 M96, as well as dual row IMS bearings. A matter of personal taste, but I think the 996. 1 with amber lights is possibly the best looking 911 since the 930 Turbo, and more interesting than anything that has come before or since. It's a hoot to drive, with plenty of usable power and torque, a great box, sound and the steering is truly outstanding.
