Description

This Ford Mustang 289 Fastback is an evocative and highly sought-after classic American ‘pony car’, which has been enhanced with a few discerning upgrades. Presented with a timeless colour scheme, the desirable GT Equipment Package, and an equally desirable optional ‘A-Code’ V8 engine with higher performance. It would make an excellent addition to any assembly of iconic classics, and a charismatic companion for weekend drives and classic car show visits alike.

This classic American ‘pony car’ that has been enhanced with a few select upgrades.
Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 289-ci (4. 7-litre) ‘A-Code’ V8, which sends its power to the rear wheels via a four-speed ‘Top-Loader’ manual transmission.
This example was manufactured in San Jose, California, and was first registered in the US in May 1965. It was then imported into the UK in June 2009, and has since been imported to the United Arab Emirates, where it has been with me for two years.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

This Mustang 289 Fastback is understood to have been specified with the optional ‘GT Equipment Package’, which consisted of twin front fog lights, power-assisted front disc brakes, racing stripes with GT plaques, a GT fuel filler cap, and heavy-duty suspension.
This example is finished in the timeless shade of Raven Black with subtle red side stripes, over a black vinyl-trimmed interior, punctuated by chrome trim highlights.
It rides on an aftermarket set of 14-inch American Racing alloy wheels finished in matte grey with brushed lips, and fitted with BFGoodrich Radial T/ A tyres.
Equipment includes a three-spoke steering wheel, push-out front quarter light windows, a Ford-branded air conditioning system, and rear cabin ventilation slats.
This example has been enhanced with an Edelbrock intake manifold, a Holley 600CFM double-barrel carburettor, Magnaflow headers and exhaust system, chrome Ford Racing rocker covers, and an Alpine CD stereo.
The car comes with the original owner’s manual, a spare wheel, and extensive documentation covering over 20 years, including sale receipts, service invoices, repair invoices, and import/ export documentation.

CONDITION

Small stone chip on the very top of one of the front wings. Paintwork looks good with only minor blemishes.
The only issue is the radio unit needs to be replaced.
The car’s last roadworthiness test was conducted on 22 February 2026, which is reported as a clean pass.

SERVICE HISTORY

The last maintenance item was performed in December 2025, at an indicated 40, 150 miles by Air Werks, which consisted of a new fuel tank being fitted, a Holley fuel pump being installed, an engine oil change, and a horn issue being resolved.
In June 2025, an engine oil and filter change was carried out, alongside the spark plugs being changed, and the carburettor being tuned.
In October 2024, a new carburettor was fitted, the clutch was replaced, and new rear brakes, a new starter motor, and a new flywheel were installed.
Other notable maintenance includes a new battery being fitted, the differential oil being changed, and new spark leads and an ignition coil being installed. Thunderous sounds and turns more heads in a Dubai than a lamborghini. Great fun to drive an iconic piece of history and well respected by others on the road.
