CAR IS NOW SOLD
1974 Reliant Super Robin 750cc.
Prior to me saving this little Robin last summer, it was owned by an elderly gentleman who had owned it for over 40 years. All the time he owned it it was kept in a garage. Unfortunately he passed away some time ago and the little Robin laid untouched for some 15 years before I discovered it in the same dry garage that he had last parked it. Just before he parked it for the last time he had spent money on having the cylinders bored, new pistons, head set and sump set etc, he also had the gearbox rebuilt. All this work was within 2000 miles of it being stood up, the invoices are with the car to validate the work.
Since I dragged the car out of it's hiding place last year I have successfully got it running and driving, with the brakes working etc, although I haven't taken it out on the road as it ideally needs totally recommissioning, I have driven up and down my cul-de-sac.
New parts I have put on are, battery, wheel cylinders, full ignition parts including coil, throttle and choke cable and I put a rebuild kit on the original zenith carb.
When the car was on a ramp it was noted that the chassis had never been welded nor does it need any, obviously due to its 40 odd years in dry storage. The body is good, for one of these in my opinion, it's 51 years old, and although the paint is thin, it shows great patina, it's just a shame about the odd door that the old boy obviously put on and tried to prime. I have the original door, it was laying beside the car when I collected it, but it is badly damaged where the hinges bolt on.
Interior is in very very good condition, seats, headlining etc but it will need a carpet set as these have had it. Dashboard is superb with no cracks.
Overall a great little project for someone, I had all intention of restoring it but my circumstances have changed and it's sitting outside which isnt ideal in the winter, if it doesn't sell then I will try and find some storage for it and will tackle it sometime in future.
It’s such a great base for someone to take to the next level, these early 750cc Robins are pretty scarce now, I think they only made them for around 2years before putting the 850cc in. The car is a running, driving stopping car with a good, solid unwelded chassis, and an extremely good interior bar the carpets which do need replacing. Car is located 15 miles from Norwich on the norfolk/ Suffolk border.
