For sale is my 1988 Citroen BX 14 E Leader, presented in very good overall condition for the year.
This BX is a useable classic daily that is straightforward and simple to drive. Being a base model BX Mk2 it has no power steering, no fuel injection and no cambelt. I am only selling due to lack of use, as I have a sports car that I use far more frequently.
The car comes with the service history folder and original Citroen handbook. It has MOT to September 2026, but I would happily put a fresh 12 months MOT on it if required.
This is a low mileage example with just under 75, 000 miles on the clock.
Maintenance wise, no expense has been spared on the car during my ownership. I have just spent over £3200 at Chevronic Centre sorting out various running faults and suspension/ maintenance and I am pleased to say it runs and drives very well.
On the road, this BX is great to drive and very characterful. The 1. 4 suitcase engine runs great and performs well, easily keeping up with modern traffic. Brakes are good and firm, it has just had new front pads and brake hoses.
The car has just been fully serviced with new spark plugs and has had a lot of recent work and adjustment to the carburetor, fuel lines and manifolds to get it running well.
The suspension is excellent and all 4 spheres and suspension pipes are good, the ride is spot on as you would expect of a BX. Steering and drivetrain gaiters are all good, and there are no knocks or bangs to indicate any failing ball joints or bushes, it has just had new rear arm bearings and front track rod ends. The LHM was refreshed with new filters in February.
This BX has very solid bodywork and does not need welding unlike most BXs - it is very original and not bodged/ patched up. It is still body coloured inside all four inner wheel arches. The paintwork is very presentable and looks mostly original which is a bonus. Whilst it is in very good shape for the age, there is the odd mark to be expected and the decals have slight peeling as expected for the age.
The interior is well preserved and very original. The seats are in very good original condition and the carpets are clean, the door cards and dashboard are free of damage with no cracks. The steering wheel has slight wear, as expected. Everything works, including the aftermarket radio.
The tyres are good quality Michelins and have excellent tread depth, with no visible cracking or perishing.
It is not a perfect nor brand new car but nonetheless an excellent example for the age and the price I am asking for the car is less than the most recent service bill alone, so no silly offers please.
