Pre-war Riley Nines have long been admired for their advanced engineering and engaging driving experience. With its high-camshaft engine design and competition pedigree, the Nine offers a level of performance and character that sets it apart from many contemporaries.
This example is particularly appealing as a well-executed “Special” – offering the charm of 1930s motoring with a more sporting and usable open tourer configuration.
First registered in Warrington in January 1936, this Riley began life as a Merlin saloon. By the early 1960s it had been converted into an MG-style tourer, before receiving its current all-aluminium four-seat body in the late 1970s.
The car previously in the same ownership between 2014 - 2025, during which time it has clearly been cared for and sympathetically improved. Purchased in 2025 by it's current owners where it has had a new head gasket, replacement exhaust manifold and gaskets and full inspection so it is ready for someone to enjoy this summer. We are selling as we have too many cars and need to reduce numbers. Photos are from when we purchased the car last year.
Included in the sale is a history file, period photographs, original buff logbook, and current V5C. Car is registered with the Riley Register.
The car presents in excellent overall condition and is ready to be enjoyed.
Bodywork: Attractive aluminium coachwork in good order, with nicely proportioned period styling
Paint: Wings and wheels repainted during previous ownership, presenting well
Interior: Period-style replacement dashboard, clean and in keeping with the car’s character
Weather Equipment: Hood, hood cover, tonneau, and side screens all included. The hood does have some small holes in but is still perfectly functionable.
The car runs and drives well, with excellent acceleration, handling and manoeuvrability, offering an authentic pre-war motoring experience.
A charming and well-sorted Riley Nine Special, ideal for entry into pre-war motoring, classic events, or relaxed touring.
Ready to be enjoyed – and worthy of close inspection.
