2009 Volvo S80 D5 SE Lux Geartronic
Welcome to the sale of our beloved Volvo S80.
Bought just over two years ago as an interim car whilst I looked for a Golf R. The Golf has been and gone and this old girl remains. We’ve done nearly 20k miles in two years with it and it’s a fantastic driving car. It’s used as a second car for longer journeys, something at which it excels, returning nearly 50mpg on a run and an average of 43mpg in overall use. Fantastic for something of this size. Working at home has become the norm for us now and as a result I can no longer justify having two cars, hence the sale.
Condition is very good overall, with only a few chips and an unfortunate scrape on the near side rear wing purely cosmetic. The car was ceramic coated when I bought it and the silver paint retains its lustre even after 17 years. There’s a faded part on the nearside rear bumper if you look closely. I assume the bumper has been repainted at some point in its life.
The car is very well equipped and all the toys are in working order including the heated electric seats and aircon. The leather is best described as nicely aged. No tears or excessive cracking in the seats. Carpets are clean and are protected by a set of fitted rubber mats. Original OEM carpet mats will also be supplied. The car has two working remote keys. It has a built in satnav that rises out of the dashboard!
The car got a fresh MOT today with advisories on surface corrosion on the subframe and suspension parts. Over my ownership, it’s had new brake calipers on the front, new exhaust brackets, two new front wheel bearings, new headlamp levelling unit, new tyres and had a major service last year.
Bad bits? The scrape on the wing mentioned above, it’s not ULEZ compliant and tax is hefty at £435 a year, or £35 a month. I really can’t think of anything else as everything works, the car drives without any untoward noises, drives straight and stops as it should. The D5 engine is reportedly unbreakable and that seems to be the case with this car. Uses little to no oil and the gearbox changes up and down smoothly without issue.
I have a service history for the car (which is hidden in the house somewhere but I will find it!) from Volvo main dealers, a local Volvo specialist to me and the most recent MOT repair invoice and tyre receipt. The car was initially MOT’d at a local garage and the advisory list was scary. However, I took the car to a trusted mechanic further afield who used a different MOT station. Tyre wear on the rear tyres is not an issue, brake wear is absolutely fine therefore these items were not flagged again. I’m happy for the car to be inspected before purchase as it’s hiding nothing.
