AC Cobra 7. 18 L Big-Block (7, 180 cc) • Ford Toploader + HURST • correctly registered as an AC Cobra licensed replica (not a Pilgrim/ Backdraft or the like)
This Cobra isn’t “fast” – it’s a mechanical punch to the chest, delivering torque, sound and emotion.
A 7, 180 cc big-block that responds instantly to the throttle, a precise Toploader manual gearbox with HURST shifter linkage shortened, sidepipes and a stiff chassis that sits on the road like a board – the kind of car that makes your pulse rise even at idle; when the motor is revved brutally it becomes even more serious…
In 2025 there was a dedicated investment in the tech – not only visually striking but above all mechanically tight.
Technically it is fresh after a major service including setup and tuning:
- Engine with valves set, new pushrods, intake tract and cover sealed, new spark plugs, all filters and all fluids renewed. Differential sealed. New super-light aluminium racing flywheel, drag-style clutch and new starter provide immediate and brutal throttle response, more reliable starts and an overall “firmer” feel.
- Invoices for service and parts around €7, 500 from 2025 are available.
Specification:
- Steel frame built from 2" × 4" profiles.
- Ford FE engine, 1965 C5AE-A 390 CID service block (NOS) bored to 7, 180 cc, with 428 SO rods and crank, 428 SO heads and 428 SO oil sump/“Catcher Pan”.
- Large‑volume Cobra oil pan with heavy‑duty guard, Melling High-Flow, balanced racing oil pump
- Edelbrock 428 Police Interceptor water pump.
- Holley 750 4V + electric Holley “Blue” pump. Transmission: 1966 Ford Toploader 4-speed (HEH-CL) with HURST shifter (NOS).
- Cooling: hand-built aluminium radiator 26" × 19" × 3" (4-row)
- Aluminium expansion tank, oil cooler,
- Electric fans and “Nose-Vent” panel.
- KRC Racing servo pump/ reservoir,
- Mustang quick-ratio power steering
- Rear axle Ford Interceptor, front and rear fully adjustable coilovers.
- Mallory Unilite, MSD 6AL, Accel 8 mm leads, Varley Red Top 60 Ah.
Interior in period look: Autometer gauges, hand-built dash, side wind deflectors, tinted sun visors, 2-stage wiper (Jaguar E-Type S1), 60 mm stainless rollover bar, Willans ECE belts, fire extinguisher, padded boot. 4" sidepipes with heat shields and “Corvette” inserts, chromed Quick Lifts front/ rear (show effect only).
Wheels & tyres: two sets – American Racing (as seen in the photos) + 15" Halibrand. Fitted with new BF Goodrich Cobra tyres.
Fair to the paint: the upper fibreglass panels have small blisters – I did not address it and regard it as patina. Mechanically it has, however, received exactly what matters. The stated price is excluding 21% VAT (reclaimable).
