Description
1966 Morgan Plus 4 Plus Coupé – One of Only 26 Ever Built (LHD)
For sale is an exceptionally rare piece of British motoring history: a 1966 Morgan Plus 4 Plus Coupé. This distinctive model represents Morgan’s bold and short-lived attempt in the 1960s to combine traditional lightweight sports car engineering with a modern, aerodynamic fiberglass coupé body.
Based on the proven Morgan Plus 4 chassis, this example is equipped with the standard Vanguard-derived 2. 1-litre four-cylinder engine, paired with a manual gearbox. It delivers the raw, mechanical and highly engaging driving experience typical of classic British sports cars—enhanced by the rarity and individuality of its fastback coupé design. This car is configured in desirable left-hand drive (LHD).
Only around 26 examples were ever produced, making it one of the rarest Morgan models ever built. Its unique fiberglass bodywork and unconventional styling clearly set it apart from the traditional Morgan roadsters, giving it strong visual presence and significant collector appeal.
Condition:
The vehicle has undergone a comprehensive technical overhaul starting in 2008 by renowned Morgan specialist Melvyn Rutter. The rolling chassis has been fully restored, providing an excellent structural and mechanical foundation. In addition, a completely new wiring loom has been custom-built and installed.
The car is currently presented as an unfinished restoration project: the major technical work has been completed, while final paintwork and interior trimming remain to be done. This offers the next owner the rare opportunity to complete the car to their own specification.
Overall, this is a highly original and extremely rare Morgan with substantial restoration work already carried out—ready for final assembly and finishing.
