Description
1996 Quantum Saloon Mk II, factory built based on a Fiesta Mk2 XR2.
Correctly registered on the V5 document as a Quantum
Engine – Fiesta XR2 1600 CVH with 5 speed manual gearbox, polished alloy rocker cover, Scorpion stainless steel exhaust front to back, silicone water hoses, mileage just approaching 51000 miles with timing and auxiliary belts changed in June 2025.
Interior – Fiesta Ghia with a professionally flocked XR2 dashboard to prevent glare, OMP steering wheel and matching gear knob. The door tops are upholstered in a perforated grey leather complimenting the rest of the interior, both door windows are electric.
Exterior – was originally battleship grey but was painted in 2k Fiat Broom yellow and comes with about a litre of the original paint, door mirrors are Mazda 323f and can be electrically adjusted but haven’t been wired up. Alloy wheels are Fox R2 clad in very good Nankang NS2 195/ 45 15 tyres, there are also a spare set of these alloys that come with the car, one of the spare wheels has a flat spot tat could probably be repaired, I bought the full spare set to replace the one with the flat spot after hitting a pothole many years ago. The front nose cone is a separate piece and the headlight flaps drop down to reveal standard Fiesta headlights
Suspension – Standard XR2 shock absorbers and springs at the front and fiesta 1100 shock absorbers and springs at the rear, there is also a full set of poly bushes with the car.
The car is mechanically very good and is so easy to maintain with excellent parts availability, can be used as an every day car which is what I did up until retirement and has a very good sized boot along with seating for 4 inside. It is fitted with a towbar that can be used to tow small trailers, trailer tent etc.
Quantum Sports Cars, founded by Mark and Harvey Wooldridge in 1987, was a British kit car manufacturer known for its unique approach to car construction. The Quantum Saloon, based on the Ford Fiesta, was the company's first model, offering a significant performance boost due to its lightweight design. The Mk II Saloon followed in 1991, based on the updated1984 second series of the Fiesta, and was a major success with 199 saloon models producedThe good thing about the car is the complete fibreglass monocoque, combining no rust with excellent strength. Most parts are standard MkII Fiesta with the exception of lower suspension arms which are MKIII Escort and the front door glass which I believe is Astra MkII. I have owned many Quantums, at least 5, both saloons and convertibles and have found them to be excellent dependable cars with a very strong owner’s club that has a vast array of knowledge and many social events throughout the year.
The owners club recently rebuilt the oldest surviving saloon and that it now on display in the Black Country museum.
