Description
This is an early cast grille 2. 4 car which has been fitted with a later 3. 4 XJ6 engine with a 420 inlet manifold and twin 2" HD8 carbs.
It was originally a drum braked car with full spats.
I have owned it for 30 years and fitted the engine and a 4 speed overdrive gear box in 1997/ 8. I then converted it to wire wheels and disc brakes during lockdown, fitting a MK2 rear axle with XJ rear calipers. The front end has a new old stock MK2 subframe fully rebuilt with new springs, shocks, all bushing and ball joints, track rods and mountings etc.
The car has been in dry stored since then.
I have recommissioned it in the last few weeks fitting a new distributor, fuel pump and drained the tank, fitting a new drain plug/ filter assembly also a new fuel filter.
It now runs and drives well.
Structurally the car is very good, it was restored back in the 80s and is now in need of some bodywork and a repaint. The interior is tidy with a replacement head lining, woodwork is excellent and carpets are good.
All electrics work as they should except the rev counter which was replaced before my ownership with a MK2 tachogenerator type but this doesn't work with the later engine fitted.
The car could be used as it is as running resto or even turned into a classic racer.
