For sale a Bentley R Type 1953 Steel Saloon. The car was purchased from a Rolls Royce and Bentley collection and had not been used in well over a decade just sitting in storage.
The car is Steel Saloon and has the larger 4. 5 Bentley big bore engine rather than the 4. 25 smaller of earlier years with 130hp. This is also the much desired 4 speed manual gearbox.
The car shows 33k miles on the clock but it doesn’t come with any prior history other than some MOTs.
The car has been checked over and serviced with:
• fresh oil and oil filter
( correct 20w50 and full flow filter )
• new spark plugs
( correctly gapped 0. 024 inches )
• air filter cleaned and oiled
( all original 1953 mesh filter cleaned as per manual in petrol )
• extensive fuel system clean replace and refill
( all filters cleaned, fresh fuel, new carb unsinkable floats and gaskets o rings etc )
• extensive coolant system clean and refill
( 3 times flush with ph neutral cleaner, fresh fill with new coolant )
• new high-capacity battery
The car runs and drives but is in need of a restoration. Interior and paintwork need some work due to some cracking on both leather and paintwork. Interior is all complete though but could do with leather seats being redone and some new carpets etc.
The car is solid underneath and pretty much all complete and all original apart from the colour choice as was originally black.
All gears work and brakes work but again would need going over for road use. Needs some electrical to get all the lights etc working. Suspension checked over for road. All the gauges and dash work fine. Radiator is all good no leaks. Wheels tyres ok but again could do with some fresh ones for road use.
Would make a fantastic restoration project, she sounds wonderful a real gem of a car it was so ahead of its time.
