Description
This Matching numbers 3CL has been in my ownership since early 2018.
The original Bosch charging system has been replaced with a modern Redax / Ignitec system which is fully electronic, I able to ride with the lights on day or night; thanks to the 250 watt alternator output. The bike always starts on the button thanks to the contactless ignition which never requires resetting,
The engine also benefits from replacement Redax solid billet cam bearing blocks, the original components had a tendency to crack over time whereas these billet blocks are very well engineered {see pictures for the alternator and cam blocks}.
The carburettors have been restored by Ducati Paddy with new jets, needles and gaskets. The fork stanchions have been restored and hard chromed and reground by AM Philpot {Hard chrome Ltd}. The exhaust pipes and collector box are made from stainless steel {Keihan Systems} which give a fabulous soundtrack which is unique to classic Laverda triples.
The speedometer and tachometer have been restored and converted from KPH to MPH by Peter Bond - London, the kilometre reading was calculated and is now displayed as MPH; I believe the mileage to be correct, I have MOT's going back over 20 years to substantiate this, the machine is classed as an Historic vehicle so there is no need to Tax or MOT for the road.
There is a comprehensive history file with this bike along with a workshop manual and parts list is supplied with the Motorcycle, there is also a copy of Tim Parker's 'Green Book' included in the sale. I have a Wall Chart wiring diagram {A3} supplied by the owners club and an original owners handbook, which will be supplied with the machine.
There is a brand new engine sprocket and a small amount of handlebar switchgear which will be supplied to the new owner. The Bike can be viewed by appointment and is situated 10 miles from Junction 36 of the M6. I have spent countless thousands of pounds upgrading this bike whilst it has been in my Stewardship, no expense has been spared in it's upkeep; only the best oil and fuel has been used.
I had lusted after a Laverda for more than 30 years prior to acquiring this Machine, I wish I could have acquired it much sooner!
This is a fabulous motorcycle to ride and will out handle any oriental offering of the same period. Often called the 'Thinking Man's Jota', in my opinion the 3CL has much better road manners than a Jota.
This is the only motorcycle I've owned in 50 years of riding motorcycles that I can place on the Stand without dismounting; such is the engineering of these Bikes.
I always have great pleasure when I'm riding it and It always gets a lot of attention when it's parked up.
It was entered into a Large Classic Vehicle show in 2024 and it received 2nd prize; I have the Rosette which I shall pass on with the machine. It's in excellent order and about as good as your will find for a 50 year old Machine.
