BMW R80 (RS) Monoshock. 1985.
The bike was purchased by me in August 1990 from Hughenden M40, it had covered 17, 662 miles and I am the second owner, its total mileage is now 28, 688 miles. I have all the MOT certificates during my ownership and they confirm the mileage, it has never failed an MOT or had any advisories.
The RS fairing was already fitted when I purchased the bike, it is fitted with the correct original BMW parts and has the handlebars, instrument mountings, headlamp etc fitted to suit. I have always maintained the bike myself and have kept it roadworthy, MOT’d and insured regardless of its low mileage. It is in sound running condition and could be used as is or would make an excellent basis for a full restoration to standard or creation of a special. The only other modifications of note are: Progressive Fork Springs, Upgraded Ignition Coil, Needle Roller Rocker Upgrade and Ceramic Brake Caliper Pistons.
I had always planned to keep the bike long term and restore it fully during retirement but unfortunately no longer have the space to do so. The bike has been garaged throughout my ownership.
The Current MOT expires in August 2026, however as the bike is now 41 years old and as such is classed as a Historic Vehicle, it no longer requires Tax and is exempt from future MOT tests.
There is a full set of luggage but it is not currently fitted. The Hepco & Becker pannier frames and rack had been on the bike in the past but the Krauser classic panniers have never been used and are in perfect condition. A large Givi top box and new pannier inner bags are also included in the sale.
The bike is fitted with a brand new AGM battery. The silencers and now unobtainable original style collector box are Keihan Stainless Steel and are in beautiful condition. The original stainless steel front disc is included but a cast iron disc is currently fitted to the bike, giving much better feel during braking, particularly in the wet. There are spare keys for the bike and luggage and the original rider’s handbook is present.
This is a very reluctant sale as I have had the bike for so long but it is not being used so really needs to go to someone who will use it as it should be. The bike is ready for use and can be ridden away but the purchaser would need to show current valid insurance and licence eligibility.
