Description
Landrover Series 1 1956 86" wheelbase. 2l petrol.
I had this Landy imported from Australia as I wanted a rust free and unrepaired chassis and bulkhead as these are so rust prone in the UK. It was despatched to Adelaide in 1955 and then to Menindee, a small town on the Darling river. Its address is written on the rear wing. When new, someone has hammered two Australian shillings over core plugs with image of a Merino sheep and date 1956. See pics.
I bought her as complete but a non runner. Over lockdown she was comprehensively rebuilt. Wherever possible I reused an original part as new parts a frequently of inferior quality. The engine, gearbox axles etc are all numbered according to a 1955 date so she is unusually original.
Whilst mechanically she is rebuilt I retained its 70yr old Australian patina, leaving the bodywork untouched.
The engine was rebuilt by the excellent Cox & Turner and the remainder by myself. I have much experience in this field of classic car restoration.
Works are comprehensive viz.
Complete engine rebore and rebuild.
Chassis and bulkhead bead-blasted and 2-pack paint.
Gearbox and transfer box rebuild
2 x axles stripped and rebuilt
New braking system
Recored radiator
New loom
Rebuilt Carb
New swivel housings
New hood, sticks and seat squabs
