Description
1930 Hudson Essex Super Six two door coach, right hand drive registered into uk in 1984.
2. 5 litre straight-six engine with a three speed manual gearbox. leaf springs front and rear, with four-wheel drum brakes and distinctive artillery-style wooden wheels. Tyres are in excellent condition. There’s no rot. And underneath is very solid. Brand new 6v battery.
The interior is very comfortable, finished in golden velour with new carpets and a rubber protective floor mat. The front and rear windows wind down, and the front screen opens wide at the base. It retains its original unrestored Art Deco dashboard. Overall, it is a very attractive and characterful car.
The car was restored approximately 20+ years ago and is finished in dark red/ burgundy with black gloss wings. The burgundy paintwork is now crazed, but this adds to its honest, usable character rather than detracting from it. It is not a showpiece, but a genuinely usable two-door classic with real presence. I bought it as a non-runner after it had been standing for around 8 years. I have since repaired/ replaced what it needed and now have the engine running and the car driving. However, the car runs and drives, but the fuel system is currently being fine-tuned. It was running rich, and I traced this to fuel being drawn into the vacuum system from the original vacuum tank. I have since bypassed the vacuum tank and fitted a low-pressure electric fuel pump and regulator, although the current setup still needs further adjustment to achieve the correct fuel pressure and flow.
My plan was to use the original vacuum tank as a simple gravity-fed header tank, with the electric pump supplying it. This should provide a consistent fuel supply to the carburettor. The remaining work is simply to finalise the fuel arrangement and fine-tune the carburettor. This is a bit beyond my capabilities as will require some engineering (or replacement vacuum tank)
The car is otherwise running and driving and represents a very interesting and usable vintage project. It will need collecting via a trailer, At present it runs rich, so someone with experience in fuel delivery will need to complete the final stage.
V5 present in my name and priced to sell. I may consider part exchange for anything old, V8, or something unusual.
