Totally original Mark 2 Golf GTI 8 valve. Family owned(father and myself) from new. Exceptionally good condition-this car has never had any paintwork carried out in its lifetime. Interior is also totally original and unmarked (even has original VW mats) except for a replacement head lining. The car has been garaged all its life and has been kept in A1 condition mechanically. After a period of about 3 years off the road, it was MOT’d in May this year, serviced, timing belt changed and I have put about 400 miles on the clock to make sure it is issue-free. It has just been detailed to a very high standard by a well-known local firm of classic vehicle specialists and the underside has been washed-off and treated with Lanoguard. I suspect that there are not many Mark 2 GTI’s as clean and original as this one!Vehicle History. 9/ 8/ 90 Bought new from MCS Crawley by my father. Regularly serviced, not by VW dealer but by ex-race technician known to family. All stamped up in original book pack. Last stamp in book 10/ 1/ 01 at 38068 miles. Early 2002 dad, diagnosed with dementia, forced to give up driving. Car was kept in his garage as it was his pride and joy in an effort not to upset him. 18/ 10/ 05 Car was transferred into my ownership after father’s death and moved into another garage, this time a heated one, until 2012. 1/ 6/ 12 Car was serviced, clutch , timing belt, water pump, discs, pads and tyres replaced. MOT tested 15/ 6/ 12 prior to some local running and trip to Classic Le Mans. SORNd and put away again in September 2012. 12. MOT mileage as per DVLA website 48606. Put back in garage at approximately 50050 miles where it remained until 2015. 1/ 7/ 15 Car serviced and MOTd prior to trip to Silverstone Classic and some local running. Mileage50085 as per DVLA MOT history site. Put back in garage at 50896 miles. Golf remained garaged until winter 2021/ 2022 when extensive mechanical work was carried out. Taxed and MOTd in April 2022 at 50997 miles. Subsequently put back in garage. Work done included service, timing belt and water pump, starter motor, alternator, radiator and all hoses, all flexible brake pipes, tyres , battery and a few odds and ends. I have the invoices for most of these parts. It was MOTd again in April 2023 and despite my intention to attend some classic car events this just never happened and the car was put back into the garage until this year. As stated previously, it has just been serviced and MOTd again and has also had the gear linkage rebushed and both the main fuel pump and lift pump replaced-probably due to the crap fuel available these days. The car is looking spot-on and crying out for some use.
