It is with mixed feelings that I'm offering my much-loved 1966 Mk II MG Midget, affectionately known as “Katie”, for sale.
Katie has been a wonderful classic to own, but with work and other commitments I simply haven't had the time to enjoy her as she deserves. I'm also in the process of moving house and losing my garage, so it's time for someone else to become her next custodian.
Katie was originally an export model sent from new to South Africa where she went through a full renovation in 1993. She was repatriated (with her then owner) to the UK in 1996 requiring a new UK registration, hence the non-original number plate which will stay with the car. She has had one other UK owner since the 1990s from whom I purchased her in 2008.
I cannot provide an accurate mileage because the old metric odometer was removed and replaced in the mid-2000s. I understand there were approximately 70, 000 km on the clock at that point and currently there are only a further 3, 480 miles on the the new odometer.
Katie comes with a soft roof and frame as well as a hard-top option and tonneau cover.
She is generally in good condition, but has some rust appearing on the wheel arches and sills, as well as the front edge of the bonnet, and some rust spotting on the rear bumper, all consistent with age (see pictures). She is a good starter and has historically run well, although she currently has a mechanical issue as her ignition coil overheats after 20 miles or so. I have not had time to investigate, so she is being sold as seen, but will drive far enough to test drive should you wish.
She comes with a partial service history (I have not been good at keeping invoices in recent years) and is MOT exempt, but is a very honest little classic that would make an enjoyable weekend car.
This is a genuine sale of a charming British sports car with plenty of potential for an enthusiast. If you're looking for a classic MG with character and are happy to give Katie the time and attention she deserves, this may be the car for you.
