Selling due to wanting a slightly more modern daily, used this as my daily for the last year and a half.
Here’s my Mk2 Driver in Tornado Red. It's a really honest car that's in great shape for its age. it's very presentable and always gets compliments wherever it goes.
The bodywork is very nice overall. The rear arches were repaired before I bought it, along with a few other bits by a previous owner. It's a really solid shell, and the only rust on it is a small bit of bubbling on the boot lid and a tiny bit of bubbling around the passenger front wiper bung. Paint work is largely original and comes up nice with a bit of wax.
The interior is mint. It's all original apart from a pair of vent-mounted cup holders, which are actually really handy if you use the car regularly. It still has the original VW rubber mats, which are in great condition as they've always had mats over the top of them. The rear seats have hardly ever been sat in, and the front seats have spent most of their life with covers on, so the bolsters are in great shape with no rips.
It's fitted with a manual choke Weber 32/ 34 DMTL carb conversion and has the original VW stereo still fitted, along with the factory sunroof, it also has original dealer plates and sticker still on the rear window.
Currently on AP coilovers, will come with OE suspension as spares.
Since I've owned it, it's had:
* Cambelt, auxiliary belt and cam oil seal (at 145k)
* Rocker cover gasket
* Full service including all filters and brake fluid
* Heater matrix and heater flaps re foamed as well as a coolant flush
* New choke cable
* Distributor cap and rotor arm
* Carb flange and airbox breather
* Sunroof cut-out and stainless deflector arms (the headlining was replaced just before I bought it)
* Exhaust rubbers
* Driver's front brake hose
* Rear brakes cleaned and adjusted
The car starts, drives and stops, however it has recently developed an intermittent misfire when hot, so recommend trailering away if long distance.
It comes with a good folder of history, including paperwork from previous owners and even the original bill of sale, which is nice to have. I also have digital photos of restoration from the previous owner. There are also two boxes of spares that will come with the car, including the original carb, original mudflaps, original centre section for the exhaust and various other bits.

I bought the car almost 2 years ago, as I’d always wanted a mk2, I daily-ed it since I bought it, it’s been a blast and the car gets a lot of attention. However buying a second car as my new daily and no space for this anymore forces reluctant sale. My favourite thing about the car is the timeless design, everyone recognises what it is and appreciates it for what it is, you’ll get comments from everyone of all age ranges saying ‘oh we used to have one of these’ ‘my dad had one of these’ and it’s great to talk to the VW community!
