Description
1968 Mk1 Morris Mini Cooper 1275cc (Australian model) for sale
Snow White with Special Burgundy Red roof (colour scheme is unique to Australian built cars)
This car was built in March 1968 in Zetland, NSW, Australia (information taken from Australian Dating Certificate) and it is a fully matching numbers car. It was exported from Australia to the USA in the 1990s and then purchased by me in 2020 and imported to N Ireland. It has clearly benefitted from being kept in dry climate and is still in very good and original condition. It is now UK registered with a current V5C.
As an Australian model it contains many unique features such as the wind-up windows, single colour interior, welded on wheel arch extensions with many features of the body shell being unique to Australian cars. Australian Mk1 Cooper S’s were manufactured between September 1965 and April 1969 with only approximately 4, 986 cars built.
Australian built minis have an embossed plate located on the firewall/ bulkhead panel which details chassis type number, engine number, car number and colour. The chassis number listed on this plate is also stamped onto the bulkhead panel and the body is stamped onto the top of the radiator shroud panel (inner quarter panel). The engine number is located on the top of the engine block and Australian Cooper S cars always had the number punched into the block, as opposed to an engine plate which was rivetted onto the block of UK cars. Australian built cars are therefore almost impossible to ‘fake’ and this car can be seen to be in its original shell with its original engine and all panels appear original also.
This is a very rare and original MK1 Cooper S.
