Description
1964 Triumph Bonneville T120C Competition 650cc – Matching Numbers
Genuine matching-numbers 1964 Triumph Bonneville T120C Competition, engine and frame number DU6800.
The engine is clearly stamped T120C DU6800 and the frame is stamped DU6800. The number falls within the recognised 1964 Triumph production range and the matching identity is recorded on the V5C.
The motorcycle was restored by its previous owner but was never successfully made to run. Since acquiring it, I have had considerable further mechanical work carried out and it now starts, runs and rides as it should.
Work carried out includes:
• Gearbox stripped and rebuilt, with failed bearings replaced
• Clutch hub and rubbers replaced
• Clutch serviced and adjusted
• Front forks rebuilt
• Front and rear brakes serviced and renewed as required
• Electronic ignition reset and checked
• Stator and electrical system checked
• New wheel rims built using stainless-steel spokes
• New tyres fitted
• Seat mounting repaired
• General mechanical setting-up and recommissioning
The bike is fitted with twin Amal carburettors and Electrex electronic ignition, so it does not require a battery.
It presents very well as an honest, usable classic rather than a concours show bike. There are some age-related cosmetic marks, including imperfections to the tank paint, oil-tank paint and areas of the exhaust chrome. I have deliberately photographed these rather than attempting to hide them.
The motorcycle comes with a current UK V5C showing:
• Registration: CBU 754B
• Make: Triumph
• Model: Bonneville T120
• Engine capacity: 650cc
• Historic Vehicle taxation class
• Declared manufactured in 1964
• Matching frame and engine identity recorded on the V5C
Mileage is not known and no claim is made regarding the mileage shown.
This is a genuine matching-numbers T120C rather than a standard Bonneville converted to resemble one. It would make an excellent usable classic as it stands, or a very worthwhile motorcycle for someone wanting to finish the cosmetics to a higher standard.
More photographs, a running video and photographs of both numbers are available. Inspection is welcomed and recommended.
