Description
1972 Opel Manta SR Rallye Automatic – Featured in The Telegraph
For sale is this 1972 Opel Manta SR Rallye Automatic, finished in metallic green with a vinyl roof, black vinyl interior and period wood-effect dashboard. It has a 1. 9-litre engine paired with the optional automatic gearbox.
This car featured in The Telegraph’s “UK’s rarest cars” series, which reported it as one of only eight believed surviving SR models and possibly the sole surviving automatic example.
The Manta has undergone light restoration and paintwork in the past, has been kept garaged, and has been displayed on the Opel Manta Owners Club (OMOC) stand at shows.
There are a few very minor bodywork imperfections, but these do not require immediate attention.
With its distinctive coupé styling and documented press coverage, this is an appealing opportunity for an enthusiast looking for a rare early Manta.
I’ve loved the Manta A since I was a teenager, so owning this rare SR Rallye Automatic has been a real privilege. My favourite thing is its styling—it still turns heads, and seeing people smile when I’m out and about makes owning it all the more enjoyable.
Its rarity and appearance in The Telegraph make this example particularly special, and it’s been a pleasure to see it displayed on the OMOC stand at shows.
I also have another Manta A that needs attention, and I need to make room and find the time to work on it. As always, something has to give, so it’s time for this one to find a new owner who will appreciate it as much as I have.
