• Original handbook, maintenance book and extensive documents from its time in the three locations

The Triumph 2. 5PI is undeniable proof that some British Leyland 70s motors were super suave! This Italianate sporting saloon was as good as anything from BMW— with an extra dash of wood-trimmed English style!

This handsome 1972 Triumph 2. 5PI Mk2 manual saloon is a rare find to be offered up for sale: first delivered new to its original owner in Lisbon on the 20th December 1972. There’s a picture of the car with its Portuguese number plates included.
Driven to France, west of Lyon, in 2018, it was there treated to a paint refresh in its current metallic shade of ‘Aston Martin’ grey. It received a new metering unit and injector service.

I purchased the car in 2021 and registered it in the UK, assigning a registration number in a format that could have been issued by DVLA office in Gloucester at the time.

French and Portuguese paperwork retained for easy, future repatriation.

During my ownership, I have fettled the car, returning to factory-spec some of the small discrepancies. (Details further below.)
Mechanically, it has had a refurbished Lucas pump and PRV, clutch slave and master overhaul kits, 7/ 16 slave cylinder mod, steering gaiters, and spin-on oil filter.
It runs lovely, the suspension being supple, the engine being refined, quick and smooth; the gear change and overdrive shift nicely.
Paintwork continues to present very well, with few signs of age or use.
Bodywork also in good order with flush door-fit and well-kept sills.

Underside as shown in photos.

You’re very welcome to come and have a look. (Located near STROUD, Glos; local rail station.)
I genuinely don’t think you’d be disappointed.

Detail mods and notes of jobs completed:
• Clutch master refurb kit fitted, along with a new, smaller bore slave cylinder for a longer more reliable throw.
• Two new steering gaiters.
• New Lucas PI pump, loop hose and PRV — the original sprang a leak in Scotland! (refurbished spare included).
• New old stock MPH speedo fitted.
• Stag 14inch steel wheels, shot-blasted and painted with mint Rostyle wheel trims.
• Set of new, premium, Uniroyal 195R14 tyres (speedo is almost spot on with GPS).
• New Hella RHD H4/ H1 headlights with Philips 200% bulbs, and period “Halogen” stickers applied.
• Warning light cluster changed to the slightly later (but still pre face-lift) style with LED bulbs for better visibility. (The tester could hardly see the main beam tell-tale at its first MoT).
• New 2x Square 8 Lucas fog lamps (factory/ dealer spec) with auto day running LED bulbs fitted.
• 2x new electric two-tone horns (as original).
• 2x electronic flasher units, for the regular and hazard warning-light function.
• New passenger Tex door mirror.
• Overdrive gear stick reinstated.
• Fuel door-lock deleted.
• TR7 bonnet badge removed and original reinstated.
• Spare keyset obtained.
