Description

Cosmetically it's not fantastic. Mechanically it's very sound. The bodywork has a dent over the n/ s wheel arch. There is also a ripple over the rear o/ s wheel arch. Both inflicted by reversing drivers. There is also lacquer peel on the roof and bonnet. Apart from that it's pretty much OK. No dents anywhere else. Doors are all OK as is the tailgate, bonnet and sunroof. No horrible rust bubbles coming up anywhere. No filler. I know because the car has been in my family from new. There's a roof moulding strip missing in the pictures but I've got that. Just need the fastener clips to put it back on if you can find any. I know there are some on Wallapop in Spain but they won't post to the UK. That's pretty much it for the outside.

The interior is in very nice condition. All the dashboard dials work. Binnacle and fascia are both fine. No splits, cracks or sun damage. Roof lining and carpet are OK. Door cards are nice. Electric windows all work. Seats are good apart from the driver's which has worn and has a split but the underlying upholstery is OK. That's pretty much it for the inside.

The engine is solid and reliable. Oil's been changed every year. Timing belt, battery and starter motor were all replaced within the last couple of years. The only thing on the engine is that it smokes a bit on start up especially in cold weather. But it's cleared by the time I've closed and locked the garage door. It's done that for years and I've read that it's very common on ZXs but I've lived with it and never tried to investigate further. There is also a slight oil leak from the rocker cover. I replaced the gasket but didn't torque it down to the Haynes setting of 20nm as I was nervous about cracking the cover. I got it up to about 10nm and it felt pretty tight to me. Perhaps it could stand a little tweak and it might stop the oil weep. But 20nm seems a lot to me and I don't want to take the chance. And that's pretty much it for the engine.

I have advertised it mainly because I resent paying net zero road tax on it when I only do about a 1000 miles a year. It'll be free in six years time as a vehicle of historical interest but I'm 70 now and will probably be past caring in six years if I'm not already.

It's MOT runs until the end of August next year. Please don't hesitate if you have any questions.

My father bought it new in 1992. He looked after it. Garaged it. Had it serviced etc. and I had it when he died in 2005. My 'girlfriend' drove it for a while and lent it to her daughter's boyfriend for a short time. Then I had it back from 2012. So when the log book says 4 keepers of the vehicle it's only half true. I've been close the car since it was new and know it's history well. So if you have any questions about that please don't hesitate.
