Description
1955 Matchless G9 500cc
The bike has been in the same ownership since 1989. It was totally restored soon after purchase by the current owner and has only done 260 miles since that time.
The bike has been stored in a garage and kept in perfect condition with regular start-ups.
All receipts are available to document the renovation work, which included the following (this is by no means an exhaustive list):
• Engine completely re-built
• All fastners replaced with stainless steel
• All chromed items, re-chromed or replaced
• All Paintwork done
• New seat
• Wheels re-built with stainless rims
• Petrol tank re-chromed and painted by a specialist
• Magneto restored by Dave Lindsley
• Dynamo rebuilt
• Speedometer rebuilt by a specialist
• Exhaust system replaced
• All new filters
• New Petrol taps
• New clutch plates
• Carburettor re-built
• Wiring loom and all electrics replaced
• Front forks and rear suspension units re-built
The bike starts very easily and runs beautifully. It is virtually like a new bike.
A letter from the AJS and Matchless Owners Club confirm that the bike was made in May 1955. The bike was given a new age-related registration number in 1990.
The Matchless is registered as a Historic Vehicle, so is exempt from Road Tax and MOT’s.
Any inspection is welcome.
