The W124 400E is a car even many Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts have never encountered. While the Porsche-associated 500E has become firmly established as a modern classic, the 400E remains something of an insider's secret.
Beneath Bruno Sacco's beautifully understated W124 body sits Mercedes-Benz's magnificent ** 4. 2-litre, four-cam, 32-valve M119 V8**.
No flared arches. No spoilers. Almost nothing to advertise what lies beneath the bonnet.

This particular European-market example was carefully sourced from ** Berlin, Germany**, by long-standing Mercedes-Benz collector Danny Lucas of the Danz Benz Collection, as part of his search for exceptional and unusually well-preserved Mercedes-Benz from the marque's great engineering era.
Finished in timeless ** Astral Silver**, the car presents exceptionally well throughout. AMG alloy wheels and a subtly lowered stance give it exactly the right period appearance while preserving the clean lines and narrow-bodied proportions that make the 400E so appealing.
Its exceptionally modest kilometre reading is complemented by an impressive history file and excellent completeness, including its original Mercedes-Benz book pack, service records, toolkit, jack, warning triangle, first-aid kit, floor mats and period equipment.
The 400E/ E420 represented ** less than 1% of overall W124-series production**, and the V8 W124 was never officially established in Britain as a right-hand-drive performance saloon. Genuine European 400Es remain an exceptionally rare sight in the UK.
Far less obvious than a 500E, the 400E combines the elegant proportions of the standard W124 with one of Mercedes-Benz's great V8 engines.
