Description
1965 MG Midget 1098cc – Running & Driving Classic Restoration Project
For sale is my 1965 MG Midget, fitted with the 1098cc petrol engine, showing approximately 92, 186 miles.
This is a lovely example of an early British two-seater sports car, with an interesting history and plenty of potential for someone looking for an enjoyable classic restoration project.
The car starts, runs and drives well. I purchased it privately with the intention of restoring it myself, but unfortunately other commitments have prevented me from making the progress I had originally planned.
The MG is being sold as a running and driving restoration project rather than a fully restored example. It has age-related wear and would benefit from further attention and improvement, making it ideal for an enthusiast who enjoys working on classic British sports cars.

History and Documentation:
I understand that the car was originally exported to California, USA, where it spent its early years before being imported back into the United Kingdom in 1983.
The UK registration records show a first registration date of 24 October 1983, which appears consistent with its reported return from America.
The car also comes with a considerable collection of invoices and historical paperwork, offering an interesting insight into its previous ownership and maintenance.
Condition:
This is an honest classic restoration project, not a concours vehicle. Prospective buyers should expect age-related imperfections and some work to bring it up to their preferred standard.
I would encourage interested buyers to view the vehicle in person to appreciate its condition and potential.
A great opportunity to acquire an early MG Midget with an interesting reported transatlantic history, a useful collection of paperwork and the potential to become a very enjoyable classic British roadster.
What attracted me to this MG Midget was its character, simplicity and interesting history.
I particularly liked the fact that it is an early 1965 model with the 1098cc engine, representing the traditional British sports car experience: lightweight, compact, mechanically straightforward and great fun to drive.
One of the most interesting aspects of this particular car is its reported American history. From what I understand, it was originally sold and exported to California before eventually returning to the UK in 1983.
It is fascinating to think that this little British sports car may have spent almost two decades enjoying the Californian climate before making its way back home.
Another appealing feature is the substantial collection of invoices and paperwork that accompanies the vehicle. For anyone who appreciates the history behind classic cars, having documents relating to its past adds another dimension to ownership.
I originally bought the MG as a personal restoration project, with the idea of gradually bringing it back to its former glory. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to dedicate the time it deserves.
I'd genuinely like to see it go to another enthusiast who will appreciate its history, enjoy working on it and hopefully get it back on the road looking its best.
These early MG Midgets have a wonderful charm, and I believe this particular example has the makings of a very rewarding project.
