Description
I'm selling my 1972 Giulia Super 1600, in beautiful and rare Rosso Amaranto, the colour Alfa used for racing in the pre-war era. Mechanically very perfect, with original paint and interior, in excellent condition and well patinated. The car is well-known within the 'Alfa Series 105' community.
This Giulia Super is the Unificata model, a sort of 'greatest hits' that takes the best bits of all the Giulias that came before it: the twin Webers, the nicer seats/ interior, the green dial dash, disc brakes all around, 5-speed gearbox, and of course the all aluminium twin cam engine.
I have Belgian 'MOT' documents going back to year 2000, confirming mileage. Prior to this, the car was an Italian home-market car, with delivery confirmed by the Certificate of Authenticity (see photos). In this period the engine was upgraded to 1600, which currently has strong compression (154-160psi).
I bought the car from a dealer in Belgium, in early 2024 for restoration. The restoration was carried out by The Classic Car Company in Wimbledon (- details above), and they have rebuilt/ renewed all mechanicals since then, including (see photos):
- underside dry-ice blasted, replaced floorpans and jack points, spare wheel well replaced, new fuel tank, and waxoyled.
- new suspension, including new front/ rear arms, springs, and firmer Eibach dampers.
- twin weber DCOE40's completely rebuilt and serviced.
- steering box serviced and sealed.
- clutch master cylinder replaced.
- new brake servo/ master, crossed-drilled rotors, pads.
- new ignition coil , distributor, and fuel pump.
- all fluids, seals and gaskets replaced.
I have chosen to prioritise originality over perfection, keeping paint and interior (both original), as they are in excellent condition with only minor chips/ bubbles here and there, in line with a >50 year-old car, but no rust or damage.
The car is currently on a set of Borrani Dial bi-metallic alloys from the period. These are very rare and valuable. I can include these in the sale, if we agree a fair price for the Giulia.
I have done about 13, 000km since owning it, and it is the most exciting car I have owned. For the new owner, there is very little the car will need in the coming 5 years: front seat foams could be renewed, underside should be resealed, and some paint bubbling could be addressed, but not urgent. Only reason for selling is that I would like to start another Alfa Romeo project.
