Description
1998 MG F 1. 8i VVC – Just over 18, 000 miles (sorry it is 18k not 14 I miss typed!!!!!!) , two owners
This MG F 1. 8i VVC has covered just over 18, 000 miles from new, which makes it one of the lowest-mileage examples around.
History
The car’s first owner had it from new until early 2025. It has always been barn-stored, and for its last five years with that owner it was dry-stored and off the road. We bought it from a dealer in early 2025, and the dealer carried out a major service and fitted a new cambelt, new tyres and new brakes before we took it.
Exterior
It’s finished in green with a black hood and tonneau cover, and it sits on the original MG five-spoke alloys with MG centre caps.
It also comes with the factory hardtop and a lightweight MG car cover.
There’s a small area of chipped paint on the driver’s side door shut, where the seatbelt has caught it. You can’t see it with the door closed.
Interior
Inside there’s cream leather upholstery with contrasting dark piping, a cream leather steering wheel rim, cream gear and handbrake gaiters, cream-faced auxiliary dials and MG sill tread plates. A fire extinguisher is fitted.
Mechanical & Maintenance
The 1. 8 VVC is the top model in the MG F range, using Rover’s variable valve control to produce 145bhp.
Early 2025 (by supplying dealer): major service, new cambelt, new tyres and new brakes
2026: oil change
MOT valid until April 2027 with no advisories
Summary
It’s in excellent condition throughout and drives beautifully. Low-mileage MG F VVCs are getting hard to find, and insurance is very reasonable, including for younger drivers. It’s a very sad sale.

We bought this MG F because examples this original and with this few miles are so hard to find. At just over 18, 000 miles from new, it feels like stepping back to 1998. The cream leather against the green paint looks every bit the classic British roadster, and with the roof down on a sunny day it’s hard not to smile.
What makes it stand out is how it’s been looked after. It had the same owner from new for over 25 years and was always kept under cover. It also comes with both the factory hardtop and the soft top, so it’s a car you can use all year round.
The VVC is the one to have. It’s the most powerful version of the MG F, and the mid-engined layout gives it lovely balanced handling that makes even a short drive feel like an occasion. It’s also cheap to run and very reasonable to insure, which makes it a brilliant first classic.
Our favourite thing is simply how it makes you feel. It’s a proper little sports car that turns heads without shouting about it. We’re only selling because it isn’t being used as much as it deserves, and it’s a very sad sale.
