Details Sharing Model history: The Austin Healey 3000 is a sporty leisure vehicle that was built between 1959 and 1967 by Jensen Motors for Austin Healey. In professional circles it is nicknamed “Big” in reference to its 3-litre six-cylinder engine. The 3000 MK III is very popular for its comfort, its meticulous craftsmanship with a wooden dashboard and rising windows. It also offers better performance and achieves 148 hp thanks to SU HD8 carburettors and a new camshaft. Austin Healey recorded numerous rally successes, especially in the Alps. Notable drivers such as Carroll Shelby, Vic Elford, Pat Moss and Timo Mäkinen sat at the wheel. The story of the Austin Healey BJ8: The car was sold new in Paris in October 1964 and was acquired in 1989 by its last owner. This owner used the car frequently near Paris. We acquired it in July 2022 and began with a complete restoration of this rare Austin Healey Phase 1, which was delivered to France as a new car and of which only 82 were delivered outside North America. Body: The original bodyshell is new and was fully restored in our workshop, with the main colour “Gun metal” and the side panels light grey chosen. All chrome fittings are renewed or replaced. Upholstery: The upholstery is being restored in our workshop, with full-grain biscuit leather and matching carpets. The hood will be redesigned in beige Alpaga. The walnut rootwood dashboard will be new. Engine: The original mechanics are being restored. The engine will be returned to its original 3-litre configuration, with the upper part of the engine renewed, including new valves and valve seats, to run on lead-free petrol. The lower engine will receive new pistons and rings, a new camshaft, a nitrided crankshaft, etc. Transmission: We have dismantled the gearbox and replaced the bearings and synchromesh rings. The overdrive has also been completely overhauled in our workshop. Suspension: The suspension is new, all polyurethane bushes have been replaced and all parts sand-blasted and treated. It is equipped with chrome 72-spoke wheels and new tyres. It already has disc brakes at the front, and the entire braking system has been completely restored.
