Model history:
The Maserati Mistral 3700 is an icon of design and performance from the 1960s. It embodied the Italian craftsmanship of the era. Unveiled for the first time at the Turin Motor Show in 1963, it was produced until 1970. This car takes its name from the Mediterranean wind. It was a Maserati tradition that would continue with models such as the Ghibli and the Bora.
Designed by Pietro Frua, the Mistral is distinguished by its elegant, flowing lines, characteristic of the great 1960s two-seaters. Its aluminium bodywork and clean grille reflect Maserati’s refined aesthetics. The tubular chassis derives from that of the Maserati 3500 GT, but the Mistral features more modern proportions and a unique fastback design.
Under the hood, the Mistral 3700 houses a 3. 7-litre straight-six with Lucas mechanical injection. This robust powerplant, inherited from the marque’s racing cars, develops around 245 horsepower, enabling a top speed of around 225 km/ h. Paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, it offered reliability and performance that were well recognised.
Maserati produced only 387 examples in the 3. 7 L version, out of a total of 844 Mistrals made. Its elegant styling, sophisticated mechanicals and Maserati heritage mark the history of 1960s Italian automotive culture.
