Passionate about motor racing, Argentine Alejandro De Tomaso founded his car-making company in 1959 near Modena. The breakout success came with the Pantera, whose styling was by Giugiaro (as with the Mangusta).
Unveiled in 1970 at the New York Auto Show, its main rival was the Chevrolet Corvette. With a steel monocoque chassis housing a 5. 8-litre Ford V8 Cleveland engine developing 310 hp, the Italian car is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/ h in 5. 8 seconds. Its main selling point is the unbeatable price‑performance ratio compared with the competition, and De Tomaso underlined this by arranging its distribution in the United States (its main market) through the Lincoln-Mercury network.
In its first year, 1, 007 units were sold, a figure of great significance for the firm!
This Pantera is the 160th built, delivered new in France by the Franco-British garage. It has had only four owners. The last of them, a Ferrari dealer, took care of the car and restored it between 2010 and 2015.
The Push Button version is identifiable by its door handles, which differ from those on other Panteras, and represents the very first produced (382 Push Button units) before the line evolved.
This De Tomaso will be fully serviced for sale. A few items will be brought back to conformity, such as the rear lights and the interior ceiling light button; four new tyres will also be fitted.
