Description
MG A 1600 Coupé (1960) – design with crazy charm!
The MGA, launched in 1955, allowed the marque to switch to a new “era” in design and to attract a younger crowd seeking lively, elegant roadsters.
It’s the roadster of renewal. “First of a new life” was the slogan of the era.
Our example was re-imported from Texas about fifteen years ago and fully restored, in its Old English White colour; it displays 53, 174 miles on the odometer, black leather interior with a white piping; headlining in good condition; a simple but tasteful dashboard.
A modern, gracefully curvaceous body designed by Syd Enever. Its 1950s aesthetics clearly mark its belonging to a bygone era of motoring and exude incredible charm.
Inline four, 1, 588cc, 80 bhp – more torque and smoother power delivery
Manual 4-speed gearbox, with 3 synchromesh
Fuel system: two SU H4 carburettors
Front disc brakes
Wire wheels painted in epoxy black that echo the interior and give it a racing look
Stiffer chassis – more composed handling
Steering precise but unassisted
Only 3, 650 ever made: a genuine rarity!
In 1960, the 1600 preserves the MGA's iconic design:
Rounded, aerodynamic lines
Classic oval grille
Simple yet sporty dashboard
The MGA 1600 Coupé is a very attractive and capable car and would go on to have a fine career.
Fixed roof, a more refined cabin and glass side windows (instead of sidescreens)
On the road, a more incisive and sporty character; a certain peace of mind at the wheel – a real asset
A lovely car for enjoyable drives.
