Land Rover Lovers Assemble – The Rover Social

We love an event here at Car & Classic, and as such, you can often find us or one of our crack photographers roaming around any one of the hundreds of shows enthusiastic owners put on over the course of the year. But just popping along is no longer enough for us, so instead we have upped the ante and supported an event. A brand spanking new event at that. Which event? The Rover Social, of course. A celebration of all things Land Rover, muddy and adventurous. It just made sense to us, given you lot spend a lot (and we’re talking tens of thousands of clicks here) of your time searching for classic Land Rovers.
The Rover Social, to be held on the 25th of September at Loseley Park, Surrey, is going to be an event for enthusiasts by enthusiasts. It’s the brainchild of lifelong Land Rover fanatics, Ian Higginson and Simon O’Leary. The event promises to satiate the die-hard enthusiasts, while also providing a fun day out for the whole family. “Whilst we’re classic Land Rover fans ourselves, we wanted to host an accessible event where we can celebrate the ethos of the brand with everyone – whether you have your own Land Rover or just share our admiration for them. The Rover Social aims to emulate the sense of camaraderie, community and adventure that the classic Land Rover represents. After such a long time spent at home during lockdown, we want to encourage people to get outside and try something new.” said The Rover Social Co-Founder Ian Higginson.
The Rover Social – What to Expect
There’s a lot planned for this one day event, including, but not limited to:
- A Classic Car Paddock where you can peruse series 1, 2 and 3 Land Rovers from 1948 to 1988 as well as 101’s and early 90 and 110 models.
- ‘Mini Rovers’ – Small scale 4x4s for the kids to drive!
- Exhibitor and club stands
- Clay pigeon shooting – PULL!
- Ample food and drink care of carefully selected local suppliers
- Live DJs to provide a welcome musical backdrop
- Children’s activities including an adventure trail and a drawing competition
- Hand chosen shopping through brand appropriate suppliers like Melville & Moon, Specialized Bikes, Simply Vintage Clothing and many more
The Rover Social – Live Stage
The Rover Social sound stage plays host to an array of incredible characters with stories to match. Sit back and relax, as our special guests recount their most memorable tales. We’ve got a celebrity owner lined up, talks from some of the biggest names in the world of Land Rover, and our own Chris Pollitt will be there to talk about the huge popularity of the Land Rover name within the wider classic car world.
The Rover Social – Don’t Just See, Do!
This event isn’t your traditional collection of static displays and stands. There’s a lot of that for you to explore and engage with, of course, but The Rover Social also presents owners with the opportunity to put their beloved 4x4s to good use. “The Rover Social Recce”, a unique and exhilarating course, designed specifically to showcase the capabilities of your vehicle, is going to be at your disposal, too. Fully trained drivers will take you safely around the course, giving you the chance to learn new skills, whilst meandering through the beautiful Surrey hills that overlook the Estate. The Rover Social provides you with the perfect excuse to leave the city for the day! And is this not what owning a Landy is all about? Getting out there, and putting it through its paces?
