Highlights
- Reported low mileage of only 23,580 miles
- Originally supplied to Guernsey in January 1989
- Engine overhauled including cylinder heads in 2010
- Original handbooks, service book and sales invoice
- One of fewer than 400 V12 convertibles still registered in the UK
The Appeal
The XJ-S replaced the E-Type, and was quite a controversial direction for the legendary marque. It was a step away from sports cars into real grand tourer territory, with impressive proportions and brutalist '70s styling that carried impressive aerodynamic principles and unusual rear buttresses - thanks to the ever-ambitious pen of Malcolm Sayer. It quickly bedded in with even the most ardent E-Type aficionados and has become a legend in the Coventry brand's repertoire - continuing to flourish for over 20 years.
The XJ-S had to wait until 1988 for a full convertible version, which featured a strengthened body shell and numerous upgrades. This particular 1989 example is especially noteworthy for its reported low mileage, original V12 engine, and documented history from new. Finished in Glacier White with brown leather interior, it's an increasingly rare opportunity to own a very original, low-mileage V12 XJ-S Convertible - a model that's becoming increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
The vendor says:
"In summary, a very original, desirable, V12 XJS convertible, in very solid order throughout that presents extremely well. Owned by a fastidious collector, with low ownership (no previous UK owners). The numbers of good V12 convertibles are dwindling with website ‘How Many Left’ indicating less than 400 Registered on UK roads."
