Finding an MX-5 that hasn’t been modified, welded into oblivion or passed between countless owners is becoming increasingly difficult. Finding one with just one owner from new is something else entirely.
Purchased brand new in 2001 by its sole keeper, this delightful example has remained with the same gentleman for the last 25 years. Due to becoming less mobile he has reluctantly decided it is time to part company with the car, and we are delighted to offer it for sale.
The originality of this MX-5 is simply exceptional. Every body panel remains factory fresh with the sole exception of the front bumper, which has been repainted during its lifetime. As enthusiasts will know, the Achilles’ heel of these cars is the condition of the sills, yet this example remains structurally solid and presents remarkably well. The bodywork is nothing short of fabulous, with only a few light hairline marks worthy of mention.
We have been advised the car has been garaged from the day it was purchased, and its condition certainly supports that claim.
Inside, the cabin has benefited from a professionally retrimmed bespoke two-tone blue and black interior which transforms the feel of the car. The craftsmanship is outstanding—arguably surpassing the quality it left the factory with.
Accompanying the car are all of its original book packs and manuals, together with a fully stamped service booklet which has required additional pages over the years. Particularly touching are the handwritten notes between the owner and the garage that maintained the car throughout his ownership—a wonderful glimpse into the care this MX-5 has received.
Mechanically, the engine oil has been replaced ready for its next owner, while the rear brake pads have also recently been renewed. The blue mohair-style soft top is immaculate, free from rips, tears or staining, and operates exactly as it should.
Showing just 64k miles, supplied with two keys and benefiting from an MOT until July 2027, this is an incredibly honest, cherished and refreshingly original MX-5 that deserves to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
