3416 DU was ordered new from the Jaguar agent in Nigeria in 1959 and collected by the customer in November 1959 from Henlys London as an export. Its first owner was a Mr John Bowman of Lagos, Nigeria. Bowman was thought to be a manager in the oil industry. After some years abroad, it finally returned hope in the mid-1970s. Upon its arrival, the car is believed to have had a new engine fitted due to the change in higher octane fuel in Europe which had caused issues. A factory “S” type engine was fitted (No. VS2128-9) and was confirmed that this engine was manufactured in 1960. To this day, 3416 DU runs this engine.
In 1989, Mr Bowman sold the car to Mr Tony Piacun who dealt within the motor trade. Subsequently Mr Piacun started the adventure of rebuilding and restoring this XK150s which took place over 11 years. The majority of mechanical work was carried out by Chris Forbes in Coventry. Backing this up is the cars history file, which contains a large, amount of invoices and receipts from 1989-2000. When the current owner acquired the car in 2000, it was running but not up a standard he wished for. The car then underwent more work, in excess of £20, 000 was spent with the work being carried out by specialists Suffolk and Turley and R S Panels.
Over the past 20 years of ownership the car has been maintained to the highest standard. It has been loved and used sparingly. A great example, this XK150s has bought many happy memories. With its sleek look, the roadster configuration is the purest iteration of the XK range and the most desirable. As ever this car has been prepared by our workshop for sale and is now ready for a new adventure.
