The Appeal

British Leyland’s Wedge is enjoying a moment in the spotlight. And with good cause, because despite a troubled early life the AD071 is one of the most stylish, innovative and interesting cars to emerge from the turmoil of the 70s motor industry. 
It was also the final outing for the illustrious Wolseley brand, one of the world’s earliest car makers. Just 3,000 six cylinder 2200 cars left Longbridge between March and September 1975 before British Leyland incompetence led to range rationalisation. Contemporary reviewers lauded it, Longbridge’s workers struggled to build it properly. 
This car, built August 1975, is one of the last of the handful of surviving cars.  The vendor believes it is the last remaining Wolseley on the road. He acquired the car in 2011 as a former concours-winning car and set about a lengthy process of improving and restoring the car. It is arguably better than the day it left the factory, although detractors might suggest that wouldn’t be hard…
Restored and repainted in factory-correct Harvest Gold with refurbished and original blue velour interior, it is a truly lovely example. Looking at the photos it is no surprise that magazines and books have chosen to feature this 2200. In recent years, KUJ124P has featured in Classic & Sportscar, Practical Classics and The Telegraph.

Alongside the cosmetic refresh, the car benefits from a rebuilt 2.2L engine, and the clever Hydragas suspension system has been overhauled. 
The Wolseley Wedge is the last car from a historically important British car maker. It is also a great example of the intelligence and independent thinking that lay at the heart of the British Leyland mess. This car is exceptionally rare and in quite exceptional condition. A great addition to any collection.

“In stunning overall condition, KUJ124P is a time warp motor car that is a fusion between the avant-garde styling and features of the 1970s and the traditional Wolseley values of quality and dependability. Driving very smoothly, as to be expected from a six-cylinder engine and advanced suspension, KUJ124P has been the topic of several motoring articles during its current ownership. It attracts interest and admiring glances wherever it travels.”
